2020 Power 5 Conference Behavioral/Mental Health Providers

Washington, DC  -  AASJS announces the upcoming re-release of the 2020 Power 5 Conference Behavioral/Mental Health Providers Race & Gender Report Card.  The findings of the 10-month study indicates that at Power Five conferences:

  • 76  percent of B/MH practitioners are White
  • 60  percent of B/MH practitioners are Female
  • 46  percent of B/MH practitioners are White Females
  • 16  percent of B/MH practitioners are Black
  • .8  percent of B/MH practitioners are Hispanic

The report observes that sports psychology is the dominant profession in this space and the profession is overwhelmingly White.  Hiring sport social workers and LPC’s, to work beside sports, clinical, and counseling psychologists is the most feasible and immediate pathway to increase Black and Brown male and female mental/behavioral health practitioners in Power 5 conference athletic departments.
